Dear Silver High School and Cobre High School Families, Fans, Alumni, and Community Members,
Silver High School and Cobre High School would like to inform our students, families, supporters, and communities that, due to the current two-year football scheduling cycle, the Fighting Colts and the Indians will not meet on the football field during the 2026–2027 football season.
As schedules were finalized for this two year cycle, the traditional Silver-Cobre rivalry game was not included. Based on current participation numbers within Cobre’s football program and the scheduling considerations associated with this cycle, both schools mutually agreed that the matchup would not take place this season. Silver also understands the challenges that many schools face in maintaining strong, safe athletic participation, and Silver supports Cobre High School as it continues to strengthen and expand its football program.
We recognize that this rivalry has been a long standing tradition for generations of families, students, alumni, and fans throughout Grant County. It has created countless memories and has long been one of our community’s most anticipated athletic events.
While the football rivalry will take a brief pause this season, the Fighting Colts and the Cobre Indians will continue to compete against one another throughout the school year in basketball, volleyball, wrestling, track and field, and other athletic and extracurricular activities. Our friendly rivalries continue to bring our communities together, showcase the talents of our student athletes, and represent the very best of Grant County’s students.
We remain committed to providing meaningful opportunities for our student-athletes while supporting the long-term success of our respective athletic programs. We appreciate the understanding and continued support of our communities, and we look forward to the opportunity to renew this great football rivalry in the future.
