This week, five Cobre High School students — Taylor McWhorter, Zayden Jimenez, Joseph Valencia, Alexis Carrillo, and Madelyn Tellez — proudly led the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Field of Flags fundraiser on campus. The students presented flags to their classmates and community members, each one honoring a local hero. Through the Field of Flags initiative, every flag represents a story — a story of courage, freedom, and sacrifice. Together, these students honored both living veterans close to them and those who have since passed, ensuring their legacies are never forgotten. Their dedication and compassion brought the Cobre community together in a powerful act of remembrance and gratitude. 💙❤️🤍 Thank you, Taylor, Zayden, Joseph, Alexis, and Madelyn, for leading with heart and honoring those who served. We are proud to announce the newest inductees into the Cobre High School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). These students have demonstrated dedication to the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.
Please join us in congratulating our inductees for their commitment to academic excellence and their positive impact on our school community.
We also want to recognize the many students who inspire us daily through their learning, service, and leadership. The NHS selection process is a rigorous and highly competitive review, guided by an anonymous faculty committee and aligned with national NHS standards. Each year, the committee is faced with very difficult decisions because so many of our students are exceptional in their own ways.
To ensure fairness and integrity, the decisions are made solely by the faculty committee. These decisions do not reflect on the NHS sponsor, Mr. Brown, nor on the school administrators. Their role is to support the chapter, while the committee independently follows the national selection guidelines.
We understand that, as parents and students, there is often a desire to know the reasoning behind the committee’s decisions. However, please note that all candidate evaluations and interviews are confidential, in keeping with NHS policy. This confidentiality protects the integrity of the process and the privacy of all applicants.
While not every deserving student is selected, we are proud of all our students and the many ways they contribute to making Cobre High School a place of growth, service, and leadership.
Congratulations to our 2025 inductees!
