Snell Middle School

Cobre Families, With an abundance of caution today, we investigated reports of a possible gas leak at Snell Middle School. In response to these concerns, we evacuated all students to Bayard Elementary as a safety measure. After the New Mexico Gas Company conducted their investigation, they have assured us there is no gas leak. We are working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff. At this time, there is no immediate cause for alarm. However, due to protocol, we are required to have a licensed plumber retest the system before students and staff can return to the building. As a result, the students will attend school online starting at 10:00 am tomorrow, January 24th. We will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available. Please feel free to reach out to the school office if you have any questions or need further assistance. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If your child need to pick up any personal items or devices they can come to Snell through 5:30 today 01/23/25, if you have questions please reach out to Mrs. Begay at 575-590-3552.

SMS Parents we will be dismissing students from the parent center next to the Bayard Elementary school Buses will resume on the normal schedule. If you chose to come for your child PLEASE come to the parent center to sign them out!

Please be advised SMS families- we determined this afternoon we would be evacuationing SMS for a period to be determined by the Bayard Fire Dept. We are being housed currently at the Bayard Elem. gym. All the staff and students at this time are safe and are at Bayard Elem. PLease call the school if you have further questions. 575-590-3552

SMS Families please be advised that Snell Middle School Adminstrative team and the Maintenance Dept. confirmed with the Gas company this am that the pressure test and all other tests related to an alleged gas leak have been confirmed to have no IMPACT to Snell students and or teachers. SMS Families- Please be advised that the gas leak reported today, this afternoon in the food science room on 01/22/25 has been addressed. Maintenance as well as others are on site at this moment. Cobre Schools would like to inform all students, their families, and staff that on Friday, January 10th we will be running a regular school day schedule.

Please remember that tomorrow is a school day. At this point the Cobre Consolidated School District has not made a determination whether this will be an in-person school day or online school day. Further updates will be sent out as decisions are made.

Due to deteriorating weather conditions all cobre elementary schools will dismiss at 12:00PM and Snell Middle School and Cobre High School will dismiss at 12:30PM

Cobre Families: Students at the middle and high school will be attending a 45-minute presentation on Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships on Wednesday, September 4th. The presenter will be Angelique Sedillo from POMS and Associates from the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority. This is an essential presentation that empowers our students with the knowledge they need to navigate their interpersonal relationships safely and responsibly. Key Topics: •Healthy Relationships: Learn the importance of mutual respect, honesty, and realistic expectations. •Unhealthy Relationships: Identify signs of discomfort or intimidation and recognize harmful behaviors like unwarranted jealousy or privacy invasions. •Digital Dangers: Understand the risks of "sexting," digital dating abuse, and the need to maintain control over personal digital and social media accounts. •Sextortion: Discover what sextortion is and how to protect oneself from online predators who may use images or videos for blackmail. •Grooming & Boundary Invasions: Recognize the warning signs and learn what actions to take if such behaviors are encountered.
