February 22nd Parent Center Grand Opening!

Today, Cobre High School students had the opportunity to tour the New Mexico State University campus! The day started with an introduction where NMSU staff talked to students about NMSU; the various colleges, admission, financial aid and more! Then, students went on a quick campus tour to see where the various university buildings down through the horseshoe before they arrived back at Corbett Center and had lunch at the Taos Dining Hall. In the afternoon, students participated in two activities the university faculty and students planned for students; an arthropod presentation where students were able to see many interesting arthropods and had the opportunity to hold some. The other, a STEM studio LEGO challenge where students were challenged to build a tower as tall as possible that would then be put to the test with an earthquake simulation. Students also were able to see many different items the STEM Studio has built; from 3D printed lightsabers to 3D printed helmets.
All in all it was a successful trip. A big thank you to Geraldine Rivera, one of our guidance councilors and the guidance office for planning this trip, as well as a thank you to all of the NMSU faculty, staff, and students for all the planning!
